Computer/Technology Requirements

Yes, the solution is cross platform, working on Windows machines as well as macOS. All features have parity on both systems.

That’s best part. We do all the hard work. The hardest thing you’ll need to do is connect to our Zoom call, and click on allow when we request remote access during that session. We prepare everything ahead of time, purchase licenses, configure accounts, build your security training curriculum and more. During the 60 minute concierge setup call, you’ll need to login to a couple admin portals, then just sit back as our techs setup the complicated settings to enable the backup, phishing simulations and other services. We’ve made it as easy as possible so that everyone can get up and running in minimal time – regardless of tech skills.

I've subscribed, now what? What do I have to do?

Call your cyber insurance company as soon as possible. Follow their directions. Additional suggestions are to disconnect the user’s computer that was hacked from your network. Inform other team members so that they are on their guard from additional attempts.

Just email your support team and let us know. If total user counts are not changing, we will close down the old user and setup the new user when they start. If increasing or decreasing users, your licenses count and cost is updated as well. You are not locked into any minimum user count.

Do I really need cybersecurity?

Your cloud provider (whatever software your firm depends on) is responsible for their security, not yours. This means they are responsible ensure they meet data storage protocols. Although they pay for access to data centers with safeguard features like biometric scanners, redundant data locations, armed guards and other cool things, they are not responsible for you and your firm. Nor for the actions of your employees. If someone’s credentials get compromised, granting access to priviledged client data, that is on you, not your cloud provider.

    • We have many solos – in the true sense of the word – and we have firms with up to 50 people relying BobaGuard. And although we wouldn’t turn away a firm with up to a 100, we’ve found our sweet spot to be with the solo to small firms.
    • We’ve found the following 3 groups to be a perfect fit for the solution:
      • Solo/smalls firms, with the lawyer in charge of IT.
      • Managing your own technology at this size is quite simple, but finding and getting access to the best cybersecurity solutions is extremely difficult. This is who we we had in mind when we first built BobaGuard. Typical size 1-15 headcount.
      • Small to medium-sized firms with an office manager in charge of IT. This individual has many roles they are responsible for, technology being one on the list. They often know more needs to be done with security and the threat of getting hacked is a constant fear in the back of their minds, Unfortunately, do to time constraints, they can rarely do anything about it. They may try the slapstick approach, one little action taken here or there. For this group, BobaGuard is a major win, providing a tremendous amount of security layers and value in a very short period of time. Typical size 10-50 total headcount.
      • Medium sized firm with in-house IT or an hourly IT person used as needed. An in-house IT person often is maxed in terms of resources. Inadvertently they end up being fire fighters, putting out tickets as fast as they can, with little time left for R&D and implementing new, modern solutions. BobaGuard is a perfect fit in this scenario since we are not a Managed Service Provider that may try to come in and replace them. We slide in alongside in-house IT, do the brunt of the setup for all users and the IT person is seen as a hero in the firm, once all the new security layers are in place. Typical size 10-100 headcount.

Yes. The founder of BobaGuard has run an IT provider that specializes in serving Mac using lawyers specifically since 2006. Although Macs are safer than Windows, mac users no longer get a hall pass when it comes to security measures. The majority of the cyberthreats today don’t care whether you are on a Mac or PC and pose just as big a threat.  https://www.globalmacit.com/article-intro-bruised-apples/

Norton was a rock solid solution- ten years ago. The threat landscape has, and continues to evolve on an ongoing basis. Today it is easy for cybercriminals to launch on attack on 50,000 law firms in a matter of minutes. BobaGuard includes modern virus software, along with DNS security and a whole lot more. In fact, a single layer of our security in our suite replaces Norton or the like, and adds a whole lot more, such as software and security patching, monitoring, maintenance, virus scanning and remediation and DNS security. And then there’s the value from the other 7 security layers.

What Does BobaGuard Include?

BobaGuard includes technical support, but only to help troubleshoot issues with the BobaGuard services. Any IT support needs must be fulfilled by your IT provider. Most of our clients use BobaGuard to help maintain and keep their systems up to date, which reduces the need for manual work, typically billed hourly, such as updating systems, virus and malware remediation and regular maintenance. Though BobaGuard does not replace the need of an IT provider, it helps reduce our client’s IT bills by adding a layer of practice maintenance on the systems.

Not at this time, but we are working on it. Getting a detailed report of all the value being provided by the security layers built into BobaGuard is high on our roadmap.

The BobaGuard tools can be installed on up to two work computers per person. For example, if you have a desktop in the office and a laptop you take to court, you can install our tools on those and have it fall under a single-user license.

It does not. The tools in BobaGuard cover computers, either Windows or Mac. BobaGuard does not include Mobile Device Management, and cannot cover iPhones, iPads, Android phones, tablets, etc. Here are some security recommendations to secure your mobile devices from the SANS Institute https://www.sans.org/newsletters/ouch/securing-mobile-devices/

Before I subscribe, I need to know...

Yes, BobaGuard automatically renews, whether you are on the monthly or annual plan. You can even pay for the year up front and get an additional discount.

Absolutely. Asides from the obvious impact a data breach would have in time, fees, loss of revenues, stress, etc.; there are some immediate and ongoing time savings. The tools we install on your computer remove the bulk of manual computer maintenance that many of our clients used to do on their own. This includes operating system updates, security patches and 3rd party software. You’ll also have the benefit of having all your systems up to date. In addition the monitoring feature will alert you to issues before they turn into major time losses. This includes, but is not limited to: failing hard drives or RAM, a full disk, failing batteries and more. Lastly the virus software with remediation will automatically identify and remove viruses and malware, and the DNS security will stop users from going to known malicious sites. Our clients tell us it saves about one hour per computer per month.

Nope, all agreements are month to month. If you love it and feel you’re getting tons of value like our clients do, hang around. if you decide it’s not for you, there’s nothing tying you down. Plus we’ve got our better-than-risk-free guarantee [enter link to it]

    • One of the best things about BobaGuard is that it is not a static set of solutions. Already in our first year, we have upgraded 4 of the security layers built into the suite. We won’t be going through massive changes in a short period like that again, but we strive to ensure we have best-in-class solutions for each security ayer we include.
    • For example, in our beta version, the 365/G-Workplace backup had some user interface limitations and a few key options missing. We found a newer and better solution and migrated all previous clients onto this new solution – at no cost.
    • Our cybersecurity training was ok, but far from great. And we understood that any barriers to using a solution will lower use, which ultimately hurts your firm’s overall security. So we went out and found a cutting-edge cybersecurity training solution – that doesn’t suck. It is not your typical 60 minute, boring, monotonous training video where you end up tuning out – the end effect is very little learned and your cybersecurity protections barely improved. Our new solution has short, entertaining videos (imagine if The Simpsons and cybersecurity training had a baby). More people watch them (7 minutes on average), more is retained and your team as a whole ends up raising the overall barrier – truly reaching the desired goal of being more secure.
    • We will never rest on our laurels and are always seeking the best. Our mission is not only have the most effective types of cybersecurity solutions to protect your firm, but to have the best in class of that type.

Nope, these are all built in to your BobaGuard investment and we take care of purchasing and renewing the licenses for all the services in your BobaGuard Suite.

We are not the creators of the sultans built into the BobaGuard Suite. We are curators. We’ve spent hundreds of hours ands and tens of thousands of dollars in selecting the best of the best, most effective cybersecurity solutions. We are able to leverage our buying power to bring the prices down and offer BobaGuard at such an incredibly low rate.

Chris Esparza

IT Service Coordinator

Chris Esparza joins BobaGuard as our IT Services Coordinator!

Chris has already made quite the impact on our BobaGuard clients, setting them up with Dashlane, and will soon be responsible for providing our new clients with an exceptional experience when completing the onboarding and training for them.

Before becoming part of the BobaGuard team, Chris worked at Mouser Electronics as a Help Desk Technician I.

With a keen interest in cybersecurity and a love to help people, Chris is an ideal fit for the Implementation Specialists position. Since joining the BobaGuard team, he quickly completed his onboarding tasks and eagerly excelled in his new role. We are confident that Chris’s addition will contribute to our ongoing mission to protect law firms from getting hacked.

Chris lives in Mansfield, TX, with his wife, Sarah, and adorable daughter, Edith who will be turning two.Chris’s favorite pastime is making wonderful memories with his family, often sharing with us the newest “skill” learned by his daughter. His family also includes his 16-year-old dog Mocha and his 9-year-old cat Beans.

When they can find the time, Chris and his wife like to head to the local theater to catch the newest release. His favorite movies to date are Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. When he can find some quiet time, Chris loves to read, two of his favorite authors are Brandon Sanderson and Pierce Brown.

Luckily because in cybersecurity, no news is good news, you may not have the opportunity to talk to Chris often, but in the rare instance you do get the chance and need a good book to read or looking for a movie to see on Saturday night – ask him, he will have some great recommendations.

Chris’s favorite quote:

“Do. Or do not. There is no try.”

– Master Yoda.

Mike Usgaard

Cybersecurity Solutions Advisor

Mike joins Bobaguard as our newest Cybersecurity Solutions Advisor. He most recently worked at PrivCloud as their Sales & Business Developer. PrivCloud is a secure data management system provider. Mike set up PrivCloud’s Sales Process and client tracking systems.

Mike’s empathy and drive to educate and help his clients are why we asked him to join the BobaGuard team. Mike does not fit into the typical salesman mold.

He truly cares about the firms and people he meets with and enjoys providing suggestions and helpful advice on adding a cybersecurity solution to their firm’s toolbelt.

Mike has been married to his wonderful wife, Heidi, for 21 years and has four kids. The two oldest, Avery and Olivia, are both away at college. Twin boys Cal and Riley are Sophomores in high school and keep their parents busy running them to numerous events, including two different high school football games a week this fall. However, that will be ending soon, as the boys will be taking their driver’s test and will be able to get to their events on their own. Something Mike is looking forward to.

His family lives in River Falls, Wisconsin. Mike, a former football player, is a die-hard fan (sufferer) of the Minnesota Vikings (I know you thought I was going to say Green Bay Packers) and has had season tickets for many years.

Mike and his family love to take road trips and experience new places and events. One of their goals is to watch a baseball game in every MLB Stadium. So far, they have experienced ten different stadiums.

When at home and can find the time, Mike likes to take in a game of golf and try out new recipes on the family grill. Although since they live in Wisconsin, I am unsure how often he enjoys those activities. Mike was the first one on our team to experience that “S” word this fall.

Julian Londono

Cybersecurity Solutions Advisor

Julian joins Bobaguard as our first Cybersecurity Solutions Advisor.  He most recently worked at LatinFinance as an Account Executive.  LatinFinance is a source of intelligence on the financial markets and economies of Latin America and the Caribbean. Julian managed key accounts of the LATAM region and was also in charge of selling sponsorships, ads, and building new or key accounts.

Julian’s passion to educate and help his clients is why we asked him to join the BobaGuard team.  He does not fit into the stereotypical salesman profile. He truly cares about his clients and is happy to provide suggestions and helpful advice on any topic that comes up during conversations with those interested in adding a cybersecurity solution to their firm’s toolbelt.

Although Julian is currently a bachelor and is one of the few at BobaGuard that does not have a furry companion, he is close with his parents and loves to tell us stories about his niece, Sarah and nephew, Simon who are twins. I’m sure a pet will be added to his family in the future, as he enjoys the company of Jessie, a friendly dachshund that lives with his parents.

Julian currently lives in Miami, Florida. He takes advantage of the wonderful weather found in Miami by playing soccer (futbol) and padel (a new game he has recently told us about). Because he is such a huge soccer fan, he rarely misses a chance to watch the Inter Miami CF MLS games at their stadium.

He has a passion for travel and plans on getting to know every single corner of the planet. He has already visited too many places to list, but a few are Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Spain, New York, and Washington DC., and has many more trips planned in the future. Two of the places he has visited that impacted him the most were Rome and Zion National Park.

In his spare time Julian is an avid car enthusiast. He has owned about twenty different vehicles. He likes to buy and keep them for about a year, just long enough to enjoy the experience, then sell and buy the next one. Julian wants to experience the thrill of driving as many different cars as possible. So far, his favorite car has been the Porsche 911 (he thinks it is the best car all around), but his dream car would be a McLaren F1.

If you get the opportunity to talk with Julian, don’t hesitate to ask his advice on buying your dream car. He has some great tips!

Julian’s favorite quote:

“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.”

Beatrice McGrath

Account Setup & Support Coordinator

Beatrice joined our BobaGuard team after working at GlobalMac IT on our Help Desk team and having an interest in cybersecurity and jumping in to help with our BobaGuard clients.

She started working in the IT world troubleshooting Windows computers, which turned into helping her clients with their iPads and iPhones, eventually moving into supporting their Apple computers.

Beatrice lives in a small town about an hour north of Philadelphia, PA. However, if you love the show “The Office,” you may be more familiar with this area of
Pennsylvania being just outside of Scranton, PA.

We love to catch a glimpse of Beatrice’s pride and joy during our morning Zoom meetings, her daughter Marilyn. Marilyn is five years old, loves kindergarten, and is cute as a button.

In addition to doing fabulous work taking care of her home and daughter, Beatrice
also has a house full of pets. She has Daisy the Chihuahua and Benny, Nico, and
Barbera, three snuggly cats.

However, the most interesting part of Beatrice is her hobby; she collects butterfly
specimens! Her current collection numbers ten, and her most rare item isn’t a butterfly at all but a Heterometrus Cyaneus, a small scorpion from Indonesia.

Boba

BobaGuard Mascot

Boba, Tom Lambotte’s cute little French Bulldog is the BobaGuard mascot and inspiration for the BobaGuard name and logo.

Boba is happy, playful, and loves to cuddle. Like BobaGuard, security is important, and protecting his little French Bulldog brother, Archie and his human siblings is a high priority.

Boba loves to join Tom at the office and make his rounds, visiting everyone on the team and greeting many of our visitors.

He’s well known to be a friendly dog – he doesn’t bark much, but when he does, it’s enough to make the point… No one gets past Boba unless they submit to a few moments of play or a good belly rub.

Boba’s Favorite Quote:

Jared Nay

IT Manager

After only a little over five years with Bobaguard, Jared recently moved into a new position as the IT Manager. His drive to learn new skills, always wanting to be the hero, and embracing change helped him rapidly move into this new challenge of improving experiences for our clients.

Jared’s highly detailed knowledge of Macs and the processes used by our clients means that he can share long-lasting solutions with our clients. He has also taken the new Help Desk Agents under his wing and shared his knowledge with them.

Before beginning at Bobaguard, Jared worked at Apple Store Genius Bars in several states over five years, providing valuable experience aligned perfectly with Bobaguard’s needs. With a Bachelor’s in New Media Art, Jared has additional experience as a freelancer in graphic design and animation, bringing a creative and attention-to-detail personality to the team.

Jared loves learning new skills, whether picking up some programming languages or constantly exploring the best new video games. As a hobby, Jared collects vintage video game consoles and carries a wealth of information in his head on just about any video game trivia you can throw at him.

When not fixing someone’s computer or spending time in a videogame world, you will find Jared and his wife on a walk with their 2-year-old Golden Retriever, Brinkley. You may even spot Brinkley during a video chat with
Jared, if you are lucky.

Jared’s favorite quote:

“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”

Christine joined GlobalMac IT in March 2020 as Tom’s (our CEO) part-time Strategic Assistant and to support the marketing and sales department. She soon was asked to join the team as a full-time employee due to her value to the team. In January of 2022, Christine was promoted to Marketing and Sales Manager for GlobalMac IT and BobaGuard.

Following our Core Values, Christine is always looking to support anyone on our team. In addition to her responsibilities in the Marketing and Sales department, Christine has also taken on tasks in HR and FnA to help Chris, our COO.

Passing the best test of character, Christine, like many members of the GlobalMac IT team, is a dog lover. Her two German shepherds, along with her husband of 22 years, make a great family that she gets to enjoy when she isn’t working. Regularly getting out into nature with her dogs and husband, Christine enjoys gardening, birdwatching, kayaking, camping, traveling, and a lot more. Christine is the epitome of “work hard, play hard.”

Tobias Morrison

Technology Alignment Manager

Tobias has been with the GlobalMac IT team since 2012. As the technology alignment manager, Tobias gives clients the best experiences by ensuring the GlobalMac IT standards library is maintained with the best solutions. He gets this done by evaluating hardware, software, and auditing client IT environments in order to give clients recommendations on how to improve things on their end. He is basically a magical genie who makes everything work better for clients.

Tobias’ family life is as energetic as the amount of energy he puts into work, and he is on the cusp of running a small backyard farm at his house. In total, his yard and house are home to 2 cats, 9 chickens, 2 ducks, and a rabbit. He is an avid birder, enjoying the sight of more than just his own chickens and ducks.
Tobias is also a father of 4 kids, who, of course, help with maintaining their small chicken population. When he isn’t working or with family, he is making noise as a talented vocalist, bassist, and percussionist.

Tobias’ favorite quote:

“The truth is not always beautiful, nor beautiful words the truth.”

– Lao Tzu

Jeremey Kenney

Operations Director

Jeremey joined GlobalMac IT in October 2019. He is the GlobalMac IT technology solutions coordinator, planning, implementing, and overseeing necessary technology solutions. Before Jeremey came onboard, he was a support engineer for Futuri Media, and before Futuri he spent 5 years working for Apple as an AppleCare Senior Advisor. This expertise made Jeremey a perfect fit for the team.

Aside from a love for videogames, Jeremey has a passion for technology in general, and loves his Thursday night golf games. He has to be the first in the group to have the newest products and often can’t help pulling computers apart to replace or upgrade hardware. He can also put them back together again, which helps.
Jeremey values spending time with friends and family, actively making the effort to connect with the important people in his life. When he is home he has two beautiful cats that won’t leave him alone, even if there’s work to do.

Jeremey’s favorite quote:

“Most impossible goals can be met simply by breaking them down into bite size chunks, writing them down, believing them and going full speed ahead as if they were routine.”

– Don Lancaster

Chris Henke

Integrator/COO

Chris is the one at the helm of the ship, steering the team around all obstacles and constantly looking for better courses to navigate while making improvements to the GlobalMac IT and BobaGuard. He’s basically Russell Crowe in the Master and Commander movie.

Chris is responsible for the company’s profit and loss results, the execution of the GlobalMac IT business plan, and providing clear and concise guidance to the team so everyone works together like a well-oiled machine.

He also realizes that humans are not just oily machines, bringing a genuine and compassionate approach to leadership.

Before joining the team, Chris had worked for many different companies developing their marketing plans and managing their finances. Believe it or not but he used to tour the country in a band (as the bass player), and also had a landscaping business before getting his bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron.
Initially joining the team in 2012 for bookkeeping, marketing, and office management, Chris rose to the COO position and now helps the CEO to steer the ship.

When Chris isn’t busy improving the company’s profitability or acting as the glue that integrates all of the major business functions, he enjoys woodworking, cycling, and jamming on his cigar-box guitar. (He most likely built the guitar himself.)

Chris’s favorite quote:
“It’s not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what’s required.”
– Winston Churchill

Tom Lambotte

CEO
